Sabah Oral Literature Project, Ongoing

Only by knowing how peoples in other times, other places, and other cultures have experienced and interpreted the human condition can we truly understand what it means to be human and our place in the universe. ~ G.N. Appell, Ph.D.

From 1959-1963 G. N. Appell and Laura W. R. Appell conducted research among the Rungus Momogun in what was then British North Borneo. In 1986 when the Appells were able to return to research among the Rungus they founded the Sabah Oral Literature Project. This work continues to this day under the leadership of our community based team.
